What is Drum'n'Bass?
Drum and Bass (drum'n'bass or DnB) is a genre of electronic music characterized by fast breakbeats with heavy bass and sub-bass lines, samples, and synthesizers. The genre grew out of the UK's jungle scene in the early 1990s and has gone on to become one of the most popular genres of electronic dance music. It was majorly influenced by the Jamaican dub and reggae sound that influenced jungle's bass-heavy sound.
History of Drum and Bass
Drum and bass began in the United Kingdom in the mid 1990s from a musical style known as jungle, which existed from the late 1980’s. Because of the criminal activity associated with jungle music, producers began to draw away creating what they labeled “drum and bass”.
As the music style became more polished, it began to shift from pirate to commercial radio gaining widespread acceptance around 1995-1997. The genre was suddenly upstarted by the garage/2step musical style near the turn of the millennium. However, drum and bass however survived and saw a revival in its popularity again. Perhaps its most recognized artist today is Goldie.
