Moombathon

Originate
Moombahton is a fusion genre that features a blend of house music, reggaeton, Latin elements and dancehall. It was created in 2008 by Dave Nada an America DJ and producer living in Washington, D.C.

Dave Nada created Moombahton in a high school party where he took “Moombah”( a track made by Chuckie and Silvio Ecomo) and blended it with“Reggaeton” slowing the mix down from 128 to 108 BPM. The crowd enjoyed it and almost went nut and so Moombahton was born.

Since then, moombahton has spread quickly across the globe, from an hagtag genre, to SoundCloud and several Djs making out bangers with the same sound everywhere. Now, alot of subgenres have emerged, some of which are moombahsoul, and moombahcore to mention a few. In 2012, Beatport recognized moombahton as an official genre, this has lead to moombahton radio in several streaming services.

Generally, Moombahton comes with a thick bass line that is spread-out. A two-step pulse that is filled with quick drums and a dramatic build. Sometimes with a mix of acapella rap samples or rave music synthesizers. Moombahton music blends house music or Dutch house with a slow tempo of reggaeton, between 100 and 128 beats BPM.
