Background:
Musically, the 1970s go down in history completely undeservedly as a period of 'waiting for the new Beatles'. A look back at the sixties and seventies leads many to the conclusion that the 'promise of the sixties' has not been fulfilled. Anyone who tests this statement against practice will, however, get a different opinion. Because, if you put the sales figures of Abba, Fleetwood Mac and Bee Gees or other giants from the last ten years next to that of The Beatles, the Liverpool 'Fab Four' will not stay anywhere. Then you even begin to wonder if The Beatles are such a strong personification of the 1960s, because there were so few superstars during that period. Since The Beatles, pop music has gained momentum. As public interest increased, record companies increased their investment. This threatened to get out of hand at the end of the 'seventies', especially in the United States, when the policy of record companies was determined more by the wallet than by the heart. That the artificial breeding of certain movements does little good and the development of talent all the more, is perhaps the best lesson we can learn from the seventies. An awful lot happened in the seventies, the editors of 'The Seventies' noticed that when about forty artists, as representative for this period, had to be chosen to illuminate together with the records made in those ten years. Although not everyone will agree with this music playlist, I believe this list represents a successful souvenir of the 1970s.
