Top40
Radio Songs
Dutch Top 40 is a chart that ranks the best-performing singles in the Netherlands. Initiated by Joost den Draaijer and put together by Stichting Nederlandse, the Dutch Top 40 is published by radio station Radio 538 every week.
Dutch Top 40 started in 1965 as "Veronica Top 40" a radio program on offshore station, Radio Veronica. It remained "The Veronica Top 40" until 1974 when the Stichting Nederlandse Top 40 bought it to the Netherlands, calling it De Nederlandse Top 40.
The compilation of the Top 40 was based on record stores and sales figures which were collected through telephone surveys. In 1999, the number of airplay on radio stations was added. Between 2006 and 2014, download figures were also considered. So the chart became a combination of airplay, streaming and social media trends. The more a song gets played on the radio, the more Top 40 ranks higher.
Currently, Dutch Top 40 is on Qmusic from 2 PM till 6 PM every Friday and one of the 4 official charts in the Netherlands
